Questions & Answers

What is an 800G QSFP-DD 2VR4 50m transceiver used for?

An 800G QSFP-DD 2VR4 50m transceiver is a high-speed optical module designed especially for 800 Gigabit Ethernet applications. “800G” indicates its data rate. Because of its high density and thermal performance, the form factor, known as “QSFP-DD” (Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable Double Density), offers higher speeds. “2VR4” signifies that it is an 8-channel, Short Reach module.

How far can an 800G QSFP-DD 2VR4 optical transceiver reach?

There is a purported reach of up to 50 meters.

What makes the best choice for an 800G 2VR4 transceiver?

The ideal choice for short-distance, extremely high-bandwidth communications within a data center is an 800G QSFP-DD 2VR4 transceiver. The 8-channel design provides the density needed for high-performance interconnects. It is best suited for connections between servers, high-bandwidth switches, and other equipment in the same or adjacent racks.

What are common types of 800G optical transceivers?
OSFP (Octal Small Form Factor Pluggable) transceiver modules designed for long-distance data transmission over metropolitan and wide-area networks.
QSFP-DD (Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Double Density) transceiver modules designed for connecting different parts of a campus or large building.
